چکیده

Background EC-IC bypass surgery is performed in the patients with internal carotid artery occlusion (ICO) or who undergo ligature of the internal carotid artery (ICA) for the treatment of aneurysm. The flow directions are varied according to the relative pressure of some intracranial arteries following post EC-IC bypass. Abnormal retrograde flow is often observed at the ipsilateral M1 segment of the middle cerebral artery (MCA), circles of Willis and ophthalmic artery (OphA) to compensate the decrease of flow from ICA. 4D-Flow can be a valuable tool for visualizing these complicated flows with unrestricted view, non-invasiveness, and high reproducibility.

Cerebral revascularization in a case of ischemic cerebrovascular disease.

Dr. Eberval Gadelha Figueiredo – Rua Oscar Freire 1456 / 34 05409-010 São Paulo SP Brasil. E-mail: [email protected] It is well established that patients with transient ischemic attacks (TIA) or minor strokes that are found to have occlusive lesions of major brain-supplying vessels are prone to develop subsequent significant stroke. The underlying pathophysiology of cerebral ischemia within t...

Results of Prospective Cohort Study on Symptomatic Cerebrovascular Occlusive Disease Showing Mild Hemodynamic Compromise [Japanese Extracranial-Intracranial Bypass Trial (JET)-2 Study]

The purpose of this study is to determine the true threshold of cerebral blood flow (CBF) and cerebrovascular reactivity (CVR) for subsequent ischemic stroke without extracranial-intracranial (EC-IC) bypass surgery in patients with hemodynamic ischemia due to symptomatic major cerebral arterial occlusive diseases. Patients were categorized based on rest CBF and CVR into four subgroups as follow...

Predicting hemodynamic ischemia by transcranial Doppler monitoring during therapeutic balloon occlusion of the internal carotid artery.

PURPOSE Our objective was to evaluate the sensitivity of transcranial Doppler (TCD) sonographic monitoring during permanent balloon occlusion of the internal carotid artery (ICA) in predicting hemodynamic ischemia. METHODS Thirty-two consecutive patients underwent controlled therapeutic balloon occlusion of the ICA. Selection criteria included assessment of the circle of Willis by compression...

Evaluation of Brain Extracranial-to-Intracranial (EC-IC) Bypass Treatments by Using Computational Hemodynamic Technology

Computational fluid dynamics(CFD) techniques were used to investigate the hemodynamic effect on EC-IC brain bypass. Local hemodynamic factors at the vascular anastomosis sites have long been thought to play an important role in the platelet activation, growth of intimal hyperplasia and thrombosis of brain bypass anastomosis and hence, affecting graft longevity. In this study, the medical imagin...

Extracranial-intracranial bypass for symptomatic occlusive cerebrovascular disease not amenable to carotid endarterectomy.

OBJECT The role of cerebral revascularization remains unclear in symptomatic occlusive cerebrovascular disease refractory to medical therapy. Despite the disappointing findings of the Cooperative Study on Extracranial-Intracranial Bypass, a subpopulation of patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease and poor hemodynamic reserve may benefit from extracranial-intracranial (EC-IC) bypass. The ...
